• SK Vitality is the name of Scott Kolasinski's Personal Training Business

The Silicon Valley/Bay Area is a fast paced, on-the-go, "if you're not first, you're last" lifestyle; or, there are plenty of individuals that have lived that lifestyle and are looking to chill out. Time is limited and individuals want to make an effective use of their time.

With over 25 years in the personal training business, I have had the pleasure of working, learning and training with some of the best personal trainers in the Palo Alto, Menlo Park and Los Altos areas. After receiving my Masters degree in Exercise Science, it was these highly educated trainers who challenged my knowledge and encouraged me to continue learning. I further my education by receiving a number of certifications in fitness and nutrition. These certifications include by are not limited to CSCS, ISSN, and USAW.

My clients have had a range of success in improving their fitness level and achieving their athletic goals, such as running a marathon or entering their first powerlifting meet. They have achieved their fat loss goals, increased their muscle mass and altered their wardrobe without changing their diet, regardless of their age or physical limitations.

The Silicon Valley/Palo Alto area is home to a large number of active people of various backgrounds, ages and fitness levels. Many clients with various ailments can still maintain/improve their fitness level. If I am not familiar with an individual's condition, I can find someone who is an expert and we can both develop a science-based program that will create the most optimal you.

How is SK Vitality different than other personal training facilities? SK Vitality is focused on preventative health, more than just strength and cardiovascular training alone, and it does not overpromise on topics outside the realm of health. Preventative health is a lifelong process that requires accountability on the individual client. Ideally, it requires lifelong testing of various metabolic and musculoskeletal measurements. Call it "wellness" or "holistic" or "functional health", preventable health is comparable to a yearly physical you may have with your doctor that is for other biomarkers of living. I will help guide you along the way with the most informative and cutting-edge forms of measurements available today.

Exercise is a part of the formula to achieve an optimal you, but nutrition is also a key component. I offer nutritional suggestions to help you achieve your health and fitness goals.

In addition, I encourage regular (approximately every 6-months) strength, cardiovascular and blood work testing. Additional testing, such as a VO2 max and/or coronary calcium scans, might be encouraged depending on your goals or motivation. These types of tests are categorized under the umbrella of "preventative health". It has been said: "If you're not assessing you're just guessing". All of the tools are provided on this website.

    Training Philosophy

The foundation of all of your workouts will be resistance/strength training. Scientists argue which biomarker may be more beneficial: strength training or cardiovascular training as measured by a VO2 max test. In terms of which is most beneficial for longevity, strength training might have an advantage, but clearly, both are most important. We do know the stronger and more muscle mass we have as we age, the better our overall quality of life and the shorter our recovery time from an unexpected injury or illness. This does not mean that there is no importance of cardiovascular training while working out with Scott. However, cardiovascular training can also happen simply by putting on a pair of running shoes and going outside, or getting onto a Peloton and doing one of their online workouts. Strength training workouts require more supervision. Your time is limited

Each workout can range from 30, 45 or 60 minutes long. They will incorporate a number of multi-joint movements that utilize multiple muscles (such as various forms of squats, deadlifts for the lower body and pushing and pulling movements of the upper body), optimizing strength, balance, flexibility and metabolic output while getting the most bang for your time.

Even though there is an emphasis on strength training, workouts will also consist of intense anaerobic training to help maximize cardiovascular improvements. With the great weather in Palo Alto/Menlo Park, an individual can simply put on a pair of shoes or get on their bike for some cardiovascular training.

Regardless of your health and fitness history, Scott will meet you at your fitness level. Each workout is tailored to maintain your strengths, improve your weaknesses and achieve your fitness goals. During a session, you can expect to feel safe with a lot of variety while training intensely, knowing that you are achieving an effective workout. Most of Scott’s clients have a physical, cardiovascular, and/or metabolic pathology: anyone can exercise!

He has worked in the health and fitness industry for over 25 years and he continues to enjoy learning how he can help people improve their fitness level. Scott offers food suggestions and creates a fitness plan to help you achieve optimal health.

He customizes every session around your activities in and outside of the gym. He considers your sleep, current and/or previous injuries, hobbies, travel and overall stress level for each workout.
